Sadly, summer will soon be coming to a close. It’s been a few good months of reading, and I probably read more than I normally would have thanks to recovering from a surgery. Without further ado, here are my five favorite reads from the summer of 2019:

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
This was an edge-of-your-seat thriller that had me intrigued from the very first page. It was very atmospheric and gothic, and I never quite knew what to expect. It had me in its trance. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41837243-lock-every-door

The Summer Wives by Beatriz Wives
This is a historical fiction novel set in the summer (obviously) of 1951 on an island in New England. The time does shift between that summer and twenty years later when Miranda, who was seventeen at the time, returns to the island due to events linked to her and her family’s past. This story is well written with a mystery at it’s core and has a touch of romance as well. *Disclaimer: the copy I read was and ARC from 2018 that I won via Goodreads* https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36381085-the-summer-wives?from_search=true

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Okay, I don’t think this book needs a lot of introduction. If you didn’t read it in high school as and assigned classic, then you should read it soon. This was a reread for me and what a difference twenty years makes to have a change of heart about a book. I loved it this time around. It’s short, so perfect for a readathon. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4671.The_Great_Gatsby?ac=1&from_search=true

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
This has to be the most perfect, romantic beach read of 2019. Beautiful paradise vacation? Check. Enemies thrown together in paradise? Double check. Okay, so maybe this plot was a little over-the-top, but it was also hilarious and sweet. A great romance for those that don’t favor graphic sexy times but still want to swoon. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42201431-the-unhoneymooners?ac=1&from_search=true

Cape May by Chip Creek
This is the second historical fiction set in the ’50s that I read this summer. It is not a light read, but if you’re in the mood for a sexy, melancholy seaside tale, then this is the book for you. I highly enjoyed it. Also, this is Chip Creek’s debut novel that was released in April. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40121926-cape-may?ac=1&from_search=true
